The Kroot are a fiercely independent and evolutionarily adaptive species of avian-humanoids hailing from the jungle world of Pech. Known for their feral appearance and tribal society, the Kroot are skilled hunters, mercenaries, and trackers, often serving as auxiliaries within the T’au Empire. Unlike their T’au allies, the Kroot shun advanced technology in favor of organic evolution, which they guide through selective consumption of other species—a process that allows them to absorb useful genetic traits.

Driven by a deep respect for ancestry and the natural cycle of life and death, Kroot culture centers on the wisdom of their kindred and the strategic use of their unique biology. While often underestimated as primitive, Kroot warbands are highly mobile, cunning, and deadly in close combat, making them ideal scouts and ambushers. Though they fight under the T’au banner, the Kroot maintain their own values and priorities, and their loyalty ultimately lies with their kindred first and foremost.
